SUMMARY 

 The book was mainly about Diable's hatred for Leclere. In the story, Diable is a pup in a pet sore when Leclere walks in and picks him up. Then Diable bit him on the hand. Leclere took this as a challenge to tame him and so he bought Diable. As they grew up, their hatred for each other became even stronger. Once Diable was in his prime, he was the biggest dog around. Leclere still could not figure out how to tame him so he tried starving him, playing music over and over again, and he shunned him, keeping him separated from all the other dogs. But Diable could not be tamed for he was stronger than all the other dogs. No matter how many times Leclere tried, all his efforts to tame Diable were in vain.
