Setting The setting of the book Diable is in northern Canada and Alaska. The entire book takes place there. The time period is spread out over several years because it is following Diable's life. All around them there is snow, small villages, and forests.

Diable Diable is a ruthless, cunning, and evil dog. He will do anything just to get another piece of food that night. He also knocks down any dog that tries to stand up to him, challenges him, or gets out of line. Diable is a conniving little weasel and can slip right under your nose without you even knowing. Diable also has a pure hatred for Leclere.		Leclere Leclere is also a ruthless, cold-hearted, cunning, and evil man. No one could stand up to him because if they did he would talk them down or even beat them down until they would submit to him. When it came to dogs, Leclere was even more ruthless. He would torment and torture the dogs until they were fully submissive.
